Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale, a Pininfarina jewel only made in two examples

Longer than the Dino, whose design it anticipates, the Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale has just won the Model Design category at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and in September it can be admired in London, in one of the most renowned elegance contests in the world

Concours d’elegance, as we know, are in shiny scenaries on which the rarest, most exceptional and seductive cars in circulation parade. If only because the organizers compete to find them all over the planet: we are talking about high-level contests, of course, as is the case of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, which has just ended (20-22 May), and the Concours of Elegance. Here, in the garden of Hampton Court, the huge castle built by Henry VIII in south London, breathtaking surprises never fail. For this year then, from 2nd to 4th of September, a super big hit has been announced. A blow so hunchbacked that one wonders what they can still unleash more relevant in the future: the Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale. It is a gem with the guide in the center also little known to the public of fans, a concept designed by the magical pencil of Aldo Brovarone for Pininfarina in 1966. And it is not that it takes long to recognize the future shapes of the Dino 206 GT and the later ones of the family. The front, the essential and sinuous line, the concave curved rear glass, the sloping uprights on the tail…

Of the Dino, the car also anticipated the central position of the V12 (4.4 liters, 380 HP) which would have characterized them as the first road cars made in Maranello with this configuration, derived from the Ferrari 365 P2. Even if the official prototype from which they consider themselves born – the Dino Berlinetta Speciale Pininfarina – had actually been presented a year earlier: that was in Paris as well, where the 365 P was also exhibited with its futuristic line for the first time. It is there that, with its beauty in Bianco Gardenia, he charmed, among others, Gianni Agnelli, who commissioned an example, albeit in another color: metallic gray. A car that after a few years “l’Avvocato”, as he was called in Italy, resold in the United States and that has probably been repainted. A destination, the USA, which was also given to the concept through Luigi Chinetti: the famous Ferrari driver and importer across the Atlantic bought and sold it twice. In 2014, when it ended up at auction, the Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale was still new, it didn’t even reach the accumulated 8 thousand km. But the resounding 23 million USD demand bounced back with no buyers. And now, to the delight of the lucky ones who will attend the Concours d’Elegance show, the English competition has managed to include it in its parterre of queens, among which there is also a 1957 Ferrari 500 TRC, and thus celebrate its first ten years.
